Northern in Arviat has shown great community support! Local store manager, Darren Price, demonstrated community spirit by donating new team uniforms to the Arviat girl's basketball team. They were by far the best-dressed team during their May basketball tournament.
Also, Arviat celebrated their 2nd Annual Northern Fishing Derby. This fishing derby promoted fun competition, community spirit and raised $1500 ($750 of the money raised will be donated to Canadian Diabetes Association)! Winners included Sukaluk Kaludjuak ($225), Elizabeth Anowtalik ($187) and Mikki Paliksalik ($150). Special thanks goes out to Andrew White, Charles Schaubroeck, Kevin Frith, Julian and Lisa Garnier, Phillip Otuk and all the dedicated store staff who volunteered their Sunday to not only judge the contest, but help clean up.
